How to Choose Your Operator
Four simple steps to your booking.
Fix your direction
Most operators run both ways, but not every listing does. Start from the town you reach first.
Decide on 3 days or more
Almost every marketplace trip is 3 days and 2 nights. Longer trips come mainly from Big Dream Boatman, Tao, Buhay Isla and Sea Quest.
Match the group to you
Castaway is adults only and social, Keelooma takes children from five, private boats suit families and friends.
Read the fees and the low reviews
Check which environmental fees are excluded, and read the two and three-star reviews before you pay.

For most travellers: We Are Juan
The listing says what you get plainly: native huts with mattress, linen and mosquito net, no fan, shared toilets and showers, three meals a day, rum, a licensed boat and captain, and a briefing at 5 pm the evening before. Reviewers keep praising the food and the crew’s energy. It suits first-timers who want a proven trip at a fair price, in either direction. The downside is scale. Groups run up to 25, and several low-star reviews describe more guests than seats at the table, too few snorkel masks and other boats at the same beaches. On the El Nido departure all four environmental fees, PHP 900, are extra.
Highest rated and most social: Castaway
Castaway’s Coron departure has the highest rating of any expedition with more than 40 reviews, and its group cap of 22 is a little lower than most. The listing is upfront about the crowd: adults only, most guests aged 18 to 35, bonfires, karaoke and games at camp, a mandatory 6 pm briefing at Outpost Hostels. It suits solo backpackers who want company. It does not suit couples looking for quiet, anyone under 18, or non-swimmers, whom the listing rules out. The El Nido departure costs more, $368, and rates lower at 4.6 from 30 reviews. Our Castaway review
Best value: Exodus Expedition
At $281, Exodus undercuts the big names and includes kayaks, hot and cold drinks, the Culion fee and van transport in Coron town. It leaves out the Linapacan and El Nido fees. The risk is the operator: we could not find an official website, it has 16 reviews, and a one-star review from July 2026 says the traveller was moved to another company’s boat because the group did not fill, then had cash stolen at camp. It suits budget travellers starting in Coron who accept that risk. Our Exodus review
Culture and families: Keelooma
Keelooma’s expedition costs $324 from El Nido and adds a tinikling lesson with its dance troupe and a jeepney ride through a local community. On its own site it accepts children from five and guests up to 70, the widest age range we found. The catch: only two reviews on GetYourGuide, bucket-and-dipper showers, power at camp for four to five hours in the evening, environmental fees and beer extra.
More comfort or more days: Sea Quest, Big Dream Boatman, Tao
Sea Quest’s 4-day trip from Coron costs $1,051 and puts one of its three nights at Ariara, a private-island resort with an air-conditioned villa, hot showers, an infinity pool and Starlink Wi-Fi. The other two nights are basic beach camps, the resort room is confirmed only about 45 days before departure, and the listing is new with no reviews. Northbound, its 5-day trip from El Nido has two resort nights for $1,541. For a longer trip at a lower price, Big Dream Boatman’s 4 days direct cost $599. Our 4-day and longer page compares them. Our Sea Quest review
Private groups: El Nido Adventure Tours on Viator
The private El Nido to Coron expedition costs $1,701 per person on Viator, rated 4.5 from 20 reviews, with hotel pickup, beach huts, meals, drinks and all fees and taxes included. It runs north only. Sea Quest’s private boat is $4,017 for a group of up to two, new with no reviews. For six or more friends, We Are Juan’s own site quotes PHP 180,000 for a private boat for the first six and PHP 12,000 for each extra guest. See private expeditions. Our private trip review
The operators you can only book direct
Four of the best-known names do not sell through GetYourGuide or Viator. We have no commercial link with them, and they deserve a fair hearing.
| Operator | Trip | Price on its site | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tao Philippines | 4 nights, arriving around noon on day 5 | Not found | Running since 2006; own base camps; minimum age 13 |
| Big Dream Boatman | 4 days, 3 nights | $599 (list $649) | Ages 12 to 60; no trips in August and September |
| Buhay Isla | 3, 4 or 5 days | PHP 22,900 / 26,900 / 30,900 | All fees included; minimum age 10; book by email |
| Keelooma | 3 days, 2 nights | PHP 19,800 | Travel insurance required; children from 5 |
Prices were checked on 25 October 2026; Keelooma’s applies from 1 November 2026 to 20 May 2027. Tao is the choice for the slowest pace, four nights on the water, but its price did not load on its site, so ask before you plan around it. Big Dream Boatman is our value pick for a longer trip, with glamping tents or cottages, a fan and a generator until about 3 am, and drinks included. Buhay Isla has the highest 3-day price of the direct operators but quotes all fees in. Our guides to Tao, Big Dream Boatman and Tao vs Big Dream Boatman go further.
What none of them can promise
No operator controls the weather. Every boat needs Coast Guard clearance, and routes change with wind and sea. Every trip here means shared bathrooms, little or no phone signal and long days on an open boat. We do not rank any operator as safest. Ask whether the boat and captain are licensed and life jackets are carried, and read the low-star reviews in our expedition reviews guide. Still deciding whether to go by boat at all? What Travellers Say About Our Top Pick
Ratings and review counts are the operators' live figures on GetYourGuide and Viator, checked in October 2026, and shift slightly day to day.
"Amazing tour with a great group of people. Great snorkeling, games and island hopping. The food was fantastic"
"This was actually one of the best experiences of my life. Rico and Ned made it so much fun. They encouraged everyone to get involved in all of the activities so no one was left out of anything! I would highly recommend choosing We Are Juan for your El Nido to Coron boat trip! It was three days of great food, stunning beaches , snorkelling and playing volleyball on remote islands, what’s better than that !!"
"Just, WOWWWWWW ! Don't hesitate. The price is worth a thousand times!!! Thank you Rico, Jo, Ivan and Sam for this masterclass! The group of 15 was great and thanks to their overflowing energy, the whole group was super active! If you plan to meet people from all over the world, guides who are waiting for you, and beautiful beaches, go for it! The fish is caught the same day, we sleep in very romantic little huts, we are even surprised all day long by the unlikely know-how of the guides. In short, too much to say compared to the number of characters possible. I recommend!!!!"
"Went to the Philippines for 10 days and this 3 day trip was honestly the highlight of that trip, the staff were amazing at their job and a great group of people to spend three days with."
"One of the best activity’s I’ve done in 8 weeks of backpacking. I did this trip as a solo and met so many great people. The tour guides were great especially bunny"
"Probably one of the best experience we did in the Philippines, awesome crew and very nice encounters ! Would love to do the tour again"

Choosing an Expedition Operator: FAQ
Short answers on which Coron–El Nido operator to pick.
For most travellers, We Are Juan: 4.8 from 602 reviews on its El Nido departure and 167 on its Coron departure, at $311 per person on dates we checked in late October 2026. Castaway rates higher from Coron (4.9 from 45) and suits a social, adults-only crowd. Read our We Are Juan review.
Exodus Expedition from Coron, at $281 with 4.7 from 16 reviews. It has a short track record and we could not find an official website for the operator. See our Exodus review and the price breakdown.
They suit different trips. Tao spends four nights on the water and arrives around noon on day five; Big Dream Boatman runs 4 days and 3 nights for $599. Tao's current price did not load on its site. Our Tao vs Big Dream Boatman guide compares them.
No. We found them only on their own websites. Keelooma, Castaway, We Are Juan and Sea Nomads sell both direct and on GetYourGuide.
Sea Quest's 4-day trip from Coron, $1,051, includes one night in an air-conditioned villa at Ariara private-island resort; its 5-day trip from El Nido has two. The other nights are beach camps. Every other trip uses huts with shared bathrooms. See 4-day and longer expeditions.
Keelooma accepts children from five on its own site, and Buhay Isla from ten. Most marketplace listings set a minimum of 16 or 18. A private expedition is the other option for a family.
We do not rank operators on safety. Check that the boat and captain are licensed, life jackets are carried and the trip waits for Coast Guard clearance, and read the low-star reviews in our expedition reviews guide.
