7 days: one El Nido day tour, a three-day island expedition and one Coron day tour, with four hotel nights and two island camp nights

To see El Nido and Coron in one trip, allow at least seven days, travel in one direction and treat the islands between them as a destination. A three-day, two-night (3D2N) boat expedition takes you from El Nido to Coron, or the reverse, through the remote islands, beaches and reefs of Linapacan and Culion. You still see El Nido’s lagoons and Coron’s lakes by booking a day tour at each end: the expedition does not visit Big Lagoon, Kayangan Lake or Twin Lagoon, because the crossings keep to the islands along the route.

With seven days, plan one day tour in each town plus the expedition. With eight, add a second El Nido route or a rest day. With ten, you have two El Nido tours, the expedition, a Coron lakes tour, another Coron activity and room for weather. The plans below are sample sequences, not bookings: departures, flights, ferries, prices and sea conditions change, so confirm the sailing date before you buy non-refundable flights or hotel nights.

How the El Nido–Coron route works

El Nido and Coron are in northern Palawan, separated by a stretch of sea full of small islands. An expedition is a one-way journey, so you do not come back to your first hotel:

  • El Nido Town → a departure point on El Nido’s coast → Linapacan islands → Culion and the Calamianes → Coron Town
  • or in reverse, Coron Town → Culion → Linapacan → an arrival point near El Nido → El Nido Town

Many operators leave from San Fernando or Sibaltan, on El Nido’s east coast, and include the road transfer from town; others use different meeting points and camps. Do not assume you will board on El Nido’s main beach. Your confirmation should give the port, the briefing, the pickup, the luggage policy and the estimated arrival time. Our expedition itinerary guide lists each operator’s start, finish and camp nights.

A typical 3D2N expedition gives you:

  • Three days moving between remote islands on a local outrigger boat.
  • Two nights in basic huts or island camps.
  • Meals cooked by the crew, drinking water and guided snorkelling and beach stops.
  • Swims at reefs, beaches and sandbars, with the stops set by the conditions.
  • A one-way arrival in the other town.

Do not assume it includes hotel nights in El Nido or Coron, flights, every local environmental fee, alcohol, fins, diving, or Big Lagoon and Kayangan Lake. Inclusions differ by operator.

7-day El Nido and Coron itinerary: the minimum expedition route

This plan assumes you arrive in El Nido and leave from Busuanga Airport (USU) near Coron. It gives each town one full day for its main sights and three days to the crossing.

DayOvernightPlan
1El NidoArrive, check in, confirm the expedition briefing and the next day’s boat tour
2El NidoEl Nido Tour A: lagoons, limestone cliffs and beaches
3Island campExpedition day 1: leave El Nido, swim and snorkel at remote islands

5Coron TownExpedition day 3: last island stops, arrive in Coron in the afternoon
6Coron TownCoron day tour: Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon and the other listed stops
7—Transfer to Busuanga Airport and fly out

Day 1: arrive in El Nido

Fly into El Nido Airport (ENI) at Lio if the flights work for you, or come overland from Puerto Princesa if you have the extra travel time. The shared vans take five to six hours; the Puerto Princesa–El Nido transfer on GetYourGuide is $20 but rated only 3.4 from 625 reviews, so read the recent ones first. Stay in El Nido Town if you want restaurants and tour meeting points on your doorstep, or in Corong Corong for a quieter, sunset-facing base; our where to stay in El Nido guide compares the areas.

Use the afternoon to check both bookings: the Tour A boat and the expedition that starts on day 3. Ask about the pre-departure briefing, whether the expedition picks you up at your hotel and where large luggage goes during the crossing.

Do not book a full-day island tour on the day you fly in. A late flight or a slow van can make you miss the boat. Our getting to El Nido and Coron guide covers the airport and van options.

Day 2: El Nido Tour A and the famous lagoons

For your only El Nido sightseeing day, Tour A is the easiest choice for a first visit. Depending on the approved route and the day’s lagoon allocation, it can include Big Lagoon, Secret Lagoon, Shimizu Island and Seven Commandos Beach.

You come for Bacuit Bay itself: sheer limestone cliffs, sheltered turquoise water and kayaking. Check whether your price includes the PHP 400 El Nido eco-tourism fee, the lagoon fee and kayak hire; many sellers list them separately. H&H’s shared Tour A ($65, 4.4 from 151 reviews) includes the fee and the Big Lagoon fee.

Tour A takes most of the day. Keep the evening easy: pack your dry bag, charge your phone and go to the expedition briefing if there is one. You will probably leave early next morning. Our El Nido island-hopping tours page compares the Tour A and Tour C listings.

Day 3: begin the El Nido to Coron expedition

After check-in and any road transfer to the departure port, the boat heads north into an island chain that looks nothing like the Bacuit Bay tours. Expect boat time between swims, snorkelling stops and a lunch cooked by the crew.

The beaches are never a guaranteed list. The captain changes stops for wind, swell, currents or access rules. By late afternoon you normally reach the first camp for dinner and a night in a simple hut or tent.

This is the off-grid part of the holiday. Electricity, hot water, phone signal and private bathrooms are limited or missing, depending on the boat and the camp.

Day 4: Linapacan, the middle of the crossing

The middle day is often why people choose the expedition over the ferry. You spend more time at reefs and beaches in the Linapacan islands, with several swims or snorkels and breaks for meals.

The water is clear and shallow, the horizon is full of islands and the stops are quieter than the classic day-tour sites. Some trips call at fishing villages or particular sandbars; others stick to reefs and beaches. You may see turtles, but nobody can promise them.

The second night is at another camp or, with some operators, the same base camp. Ask ahead if you want a private sleeping space, have dietary needs or need a reliable toilet.

Day 5: finish the expedition in Coron

The last leg runs north through the islands around Culion and the Calamianes to Coron Town. Most operators advertise an afternoon arrival on the last expedition day, but the time depends on the weather.

Book a hotel in Coron Town for tonight. Do not plan a same-afternoon flight, an onward ferry, a fixed-time dive or anything else you would lose money on if the boat lands late.

The plan is simple: get off, collect your bag, check in, shower and have a relaxed dinner in town.

Day 6: Coron Island, Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon and reefs

Book a Coron Ultimate or Super Ultimate tour that names the sites you care about. Common combinations include Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, Barracuda Lake, Skeleton Wreck, beaches and coral gardens, but every operator’s route differs. PSALMS Travel’s Coron Ultimate Tour ($42, 4.8 from 1,518 reviews) lists all four, with pickup in town and the site entrance fees included.

Coron is not a second El Nido. Its lake swims, narrow lagoon entrances and reefs you can reach from the surface make it a different day.

If Kayangan Lake is your priority, check that it appears in the package description. A tour sold as “Coron island hopping” may go to distant beaches such as Malcapuya or Bulog Dos instead. Our Coron island-hopping tours page compares the options.

Day 7: fly out from Busuanga Airport

Francisco B. Reyes Airport (USU), on Busuanga, serves Coron; it is not in Coron Town. Arrange the transfer for the time your airline asks, allowing for the drive and check-in.

If you connect to a separately ticketed long-haul flight, a buffer night in Clark, Manila or your onward hub is safer than trusting everything to run on time. Regional flights and boats are both exposed to delays.

Is seven days enough? Yes, if the dates line up and you want the expedition plus the must-see lagoons and lakes. But this plan has almost no spare time if a boat day is cancelled. With fixed flights, take the eight or ten-day version.

8-day El Nido and Coron itinerary: the best balance

Add a second full day in El Nido before you head north. You see two sides of Bacuit Bay without giving up the Coron day.

Why Tour A and Tour C work well together

Tour A is the lagoon day. Tour C goes to the outer islands for snorkelling and beaches such as Hidden Beach, Secret Beach and the Matinloc and Helicopter Island area, subject to the sea and the day’s permit. Corazon’s Tour C is $29, 4.4 from 805 reviews, the most-reviewed El Nido day tour we track.

Together they give you more variety than two lagoon trips, and the crossing adds a third kind of day: three days through the islands between El Nido and Coron.

If you get seasick, want more rest or are travelling with children, use day 3 for Nacpan Beach, a slow day in town or a weather slot. The rest of the route stays the same.

The eight-day plan is still tightly sequenced. Day 3 can absorb a cancelled Tour A, but then you lose Tour C. If the expedition itself is postponed, the whole route moves.

10-day Palawan itinerary: lagoons, expedition and an unhurried Coron

Ten days suits beach lovers, snorkellers and anyone who does not want to run from one boat to the next. It also leaves room for a longer expedition if you rearrange the days around it.

DayPlanOvernight

What to do with the extra days

Keep day 4 in El Nido flexible. If both boat tours ran, spend it at Nacpan or Lio Beach. If rough seas cancelled Tour A or Tour C, try again, subject to the operator and the lagoon permits.

Day 9 in Coron depends on what you like:

  • Snorkelling and wrecks: a guided reef-and-wreck day with shallow wreck sites, if you are comfortable in open water. It is not sold on GetYourGuide; Experience Coron lists one at PHP 1,700.
  • Beaches: a beach trip to Malcapuya, Bulog Dos or other outer islands that your expedition did not visit.
  • Certified divers: a day with a licensed dive centre, matched to your certification, leaving the required interval before you fly.
  • Rest: leave it empty, so a weather delay earlier in the trip does not cost you Coron.

For a 4D3N expedition instead of a 3D2N, set aside four consecutive days and drop or move one of the optional days. Do not add an island night without moving the arrival and the hotel dates. Some companies sell other formats, such as four days and four nights; read the itinerary, not the label. Our 4-day, 3-night expedition guide compares them.

Reverse itinerary: Coron to El Nido in 7 to 10 days

Direction is a practical choice. If flights or the expedition dates favour Coron first, flip the route:

DaySample 9-day Coron to El Nido trip
1Arrive at Busuanga Airport, transfer to Coron Town
2Coron lakes and lagoons tour
3Coron reef-and-wreck or beach tour
4Expedition day 1: Coron to the Culion islands
5Expedition day 2: Linapacan reefs and beaches
6Expedition day 3: arrive near El Nido, transfer to town
7El Nido Tour A
8El Nido Tour C, a beach day or a weather buffer
9Fly out from El Nido Airport or continue overland

For a seven-day reverse trip, use day 1 to arrive, day 2 for the Coron lakes, days 3 to 5 for the crossing, day 6 for Tour A and day 7 to leave. That works only if the expedition fits those dates, and it leaves you almost nothing if the sea cancels a day. From Coron, We Are Juan’s Coron to El Nido expedition is $311, 4.8 from 173 reviews, and Castaway’s is $327, 4.9 from 45 reviews.

Which direction is better? The one that avoids backtracking, matches a real departure and gives you a safe onward connection. If you want to finish with El Nido’s lagoons and sunset beaches, go Coron to El Nido. If you want to dive Coron’s wrecks or fly out of Busuanga, go El Nido to Coron. Our Coron to El Nido or the reverse guide compares the two.

If you have only five or six days, the ferry is usually the sensible choice: it frees days for El Nido’s lagoons and Coron’s lakes. Check the sailing days before you build the plan, because the service is not daily at the moment.

As of 7 October 2026, an El Nido Tourism Office advisory, reported by El Nido Map, listed Montenegro Lines as the only operator on the route, leaving El Nido at 12:00 and Coron at 06:00 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Jomalia and Atienza were temporarily closed and Phimal was not sailing. That is a dated snapshot, so recheck with the ferry company or the tourism office close to your dates. Our El Nido–Coron ferry guide and expedition vs ferry comparison go further.

How much does an El Nido and Coron expedition itinerary cost?

Start with the activities per person, then add hotels, flights, transfers and spending money. The 3D2N expedition is the biggest single cost, but it replaces two hotel nights and most meals during the crossing.

As an example, PHP 22,900 for the Buhay Isla 3D2N, PHP 1,500 for Tour A, PHP 1,700 for Tour C and PHP 1,700 for a Coron Ultimate tour come to PHP 27,800 per person in tours alone. That is arithmetic, not a package quote, and those four products may not be available on matching dates. Shared expeditions from other operators start lower: Keelooma charges PHP 19,800 from 1 November 2026, with the El Nido and Coron fees paid separately.

Then add:

  • Hotel nights in El Nido and Coron (not the two camp nights).
  • Flights into El Nido or Busuanga, or the van from Puerto Princesa.
  • Airport transfers and any port transport your booking leaves out.
  • Environmental fees, site entries, kayaks or snorkel gear where excluded; El Nido charges PHP 400 and Coron PHP 200.
  • Meals and drinks on non-expedition days, tips and travel insurance.
  • A reserve for cancellations, changes or an extra night.

Taking the ferry instead saves a large share of the transport cost, but you then pay for the hotels and meals the expedition would have covered. Compare whole itineraries, not boat tickets. Our expedition price guide compares the shared, private and four-day trips.

When is the best time to combine El Nido and Coron?

December to April is the most popular period for boat trips, with the driest weather in northern Palawan, and the wider November to May window is the usual recommendation. The southwest monsoon brings the wetter months, from about June to October, but any month can bring rough seas and cancellations.

The sea matters more than the calendar. A sunny day in town does not mean an exposed crossing or a lagoon route will run. Expeditions can be delayed or changed for safety, and island stops can change even when the trip goes ahead.

A few rules cut the risk:

  1. Secure an expedition departure date before you book your flights within the Philippines.
  2. Arrive in the departure town at least the day before, especially if there is a briefing.
  3. Do not book a flight, an international connection or an expensive fixed-time activity on the day the expedition finishes.
  4. Book refundable or changeable rooms at both ends where you can.
  5. Leave some flexibility for the lagoons and lakes, which have their own access rules.

Check the PAGASA weather service and your operator’s advice close to departure, and our best time to go guide for the months.

Where should you stay before and after the expedition?

El Nido: stay near the tour departures and restaurants

El Nido Town is handy for boat tours, booking desks, shops and casual dinners. Corong Corong is quieter, with sunset views, but you may need a short ride to the boat pickup. Lio is close to the airport and has a long beach; check the expedition’s meeting point before you book there. Our where to stay in El Nido guide has the hotels.

Stay at least one night before a morning expedition. If the company holds a briefing the evening before, arriving on departure morning does not work.

Coron: book Coron Town, not “Coron Island”

Coron Town is on Busuanga Island and is the usual base for tours of Coron Island’s lakes and lagoons. Hotels described as “on Coron Island” or on other offshore islands may be awkward for your expedition arrival and the next day’s boat tour.

Book a Coron Town hotel for the night you land. Transport stays simple and you avoid another boat ride when you are tired. Our where to stay in Coron guide compares the areas.

Packing for a multi-day crossing within a longer holiday

On a day tour you go back to your room each evening; on the crossing you live out of a small bag for three days. Pack for wet conditions and little charging:

  • Dry bag: documents, phone, a spare outfit and essentials, kept away from spray and wet swimwear.
  • Swimwear and quick-dry clothes, which are more use at camp than heavy cotton or a large suitcase.
  • Sun protection: hat, rash guard, reef-safe sunscreen and sunglasses.
  • Water shoes for boarding the boat and rocky landings; never walk on coral.
  • Personal medication and basic toiletries, including anything you cannot replace on a remote island.
  • Power bank and head torch, because electricity and lighting at camp vary.
  • Cash in Philippine pesos for excluded fees, tips and surprises.
  • Travel insurance that covers boat trips, snorkelling and interrupted travel.

Ask your operator how it handles large suitcases and whether bags stay on the boat or come ashore at each camp. Do not count on lockers, phone signal or laundry. Our expedition packing list goes into the detail.

Mistakes to avoid when planning Coron and El Nido together

Assuming the expedition includes every famous attraction

The crossing is about Linapacan and the islands along the route. Book El Nido’s Big Lagoon area and Coron’s lakes as separate day tours if you must see them.

Booking hotels before checking the expedition calendar

A three-day trip takes three consecutive dates and two camp nights. Operators sail on set dates, not every day and not always in both directions. Fix the boat date first, then build the rest of the trip around it.

Flying out straight after the crossing

Do not rely on an afternoon arrival to make a same-day flight. Spend at least one night in the arrival town, and add another buffer before an important connection.

Counting camp nights as hotel nights

A 3D2N expedition replaces two hotel nights during the crossing. In the seven-day plan you still need two hotel nights in El Nido before the boat and two in Coron after it: six nights in total, two of them at island camps.

Treating all “island hopping” tours as equivalent

Tour A, Tour C, a Coron lakes tour, a reef-and-wreck day and a multi-day crossing go to different places. Read the route; the words “island hopping” tell you nothing about it.

Frequently asked questions

Is seven days enough for El Nido and Coron?

Yes, but it is tight with a three-day expedition. A seven-day trip has one full day tour in El Nido, three expedition days, one full Coron day, an arrival day and a departure day, with almost no spare day for weather.

Should I go to El Nido or Coron first?

Either works. Pick the direction that matches your flights and a confirmed sailing date. El Nido to Coron suits you if you want to start with Bacuit Bay and finish with Coron’s lakes, reefs or wreck dives. Coron to El Nido suits you if you want to finish with the lagoons and El Nido’s beaches.

Can I visit El Nido and Coron in one trip without a ferry?

Yes. A one-way multi-day expedition links the two, and Cebgo flies between Lio and Busuanga in about 40 minutes, usually once a day. The expedition takes three or more days and includes camp nights, so it is a very different trip from the ferry or the flight. Check that the flight runs on your date before you count on it.

Does an El Nido to Coron expedition include Big Lagoon?

Assume it does not unless the operator lists it. Many crossings leave from El Nido’s east coast and spend their time among the remote islands between El Nido and Coron. See Big Lagoon on an El Nido day tour such as Tour A.

Does a Coron to El Nido expedition include Kayangan Lake?

Not as a standard stop. Kayangan Lake is visited on a Coron Island day tour such as PSALMS’s Ultimate Tour, not on the crossing. Book it separately if it matters to you.

Is eight days enough for Tour A, Tour C, an expedition and Coron?

Yes, when the dates line up. Spend the arrival day and two tour days in El Nido, take the three-day crossing, spend a full day on Coron’s lakes and lagoons and fly out on day 8. There is little room for weather, so avoid non-refundable onward connections where you can.

How many hotel nights should I book on a 3D2N expedition trip?

For the seven-day plan, book two hotel nights in El Nido and two in Coron; the other two nights are in the expedition’s camps. For the eight-day plan, book three nights in El Nido and two in Coron, plus the two camp nights.

Is the expedition suitable for families with children?

It depends on the operator and the children. Shared boats have minimum ages, basic toilets, long hours at sea and little electricity. Buhay Isla takes children from age 10, and We Are Juan from 16; some operators run private family trips. Check the minimum age, safety equipment, swimming expectations, medical limits and camp facilities before booking.

Can I do the expedition during the rainy season?

Some operators sail outside the dry months, but every departure depends on the weather and Coast Guard restrictions. Expect more uncertainty and keep your plans flexible: a confirmed booking does not mean the boat will sail in unsafe weather.

Can I fit a four-day expedition into seven days?

Possibly, if you give up a day tour or a rest day. For El Nido’s lagoons, Coron’s lakes and a relaxed crossing, nine or ten days is more comfortable. Check whether your “four-day” trip is 4D3N, 4D4N or something else.

Fix the boat date, then build the trip around it

For a first combined visit, an eight-day El Nido to Coron trip is a good starting point: Tour A and Tour C, a 3D2N expedition through Linapacan, a full Coron day tour and flights at opposite ends. We Are Juan’s El Nido to Coron expedition, the most-reviewed crossing on GetYourGuide at 4.8 from 605 reviews, is $311 per person. With ten days you get more weather cover and a slower holiday.

The best route takes in Bacuit Bay, the remote island crossing and Coron’s lakes and lagoons, and still gets you to your onward flight on time.

Compare the 3D2N and 4D3N dates and inclusions first, then book the hotel nights and flights around the sailing. Our Palawan island hopping comparison and expedition itinerary guide help you choose the trip.
