The fast ferry between El Nido and Coron takes about 3.5 hours and, according to the most recent travel guides we found (August to October 2026), costs roughly PHP 2,750 to 3,250 one way. Several companies run it, including Montenegro Shipping Lines, Atienza Interisland Ferries, Jomalia, Phimal Fast Ferry and Island Water. Most El Nido departures leave between early morning and early afternoon, but published times and fares disagree from one source to the next, so check the day before you travel. Sailings are cancelled in rough seas. If you want the crossing to be part of the trip, a 3-day expedition does the same journey over two nights; our expedition vs ferry guide weighs that choice.

Who runs the ferry and how long it takes
Travel guides published in 2026 name five operators on the El Nido to Coron route:
- Montenegro Shipping Lines
- Atienza Interisland Ferries
- Jomalia
- Phimal Fast Ferry
- Island Water
The fast boats take about 3 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 40 minutes on published timetables. Slower boats and rough water stretch that to 4 or 5 hours. Atienza also runs a slow passenger-cargo boat about once a week, which takes up to 8 hours and was quoted from about PHP 2,400.
Over water, the two towns are roughly 127 km apart in a straight line. The ferry runs direct; an expedition boat takes the long way through Linapacan and Culion over two to four nights.
None of the ferry operators publishes a full timetable we could verify on its own site, and aggregators disagree on whether boats run daily or five to six days a week. Treat any single schedule as a guide, not a promise.
Fares: why the numbers disagree
You will see ferry fares from PHP 1,600 to over PHP 3,500 depending on where you look. Here is what each source said, with its date:
| Source | Date | Fare quoted (one way) |
|---|---|---|
| Pamasahe, Phimal | August 2026 | PHP 1,828 |
| bustickets.ph, Montenegro | Undated | PHP 1,760 |
| The Discoveries Of | 17 October 2026 | PHP 1,600 to 3,250 |
| El Nido Insights | Updated 27 September 2026 | PHP 2,989 to 3,210 |
| suroy.ph | August 2026 | PHP 2,750 to 3,250 (fast ferries); PHP 2,400 to 2,600 (overnight cargo boat) |
| Pamasahe, Island Water | Not opened, via search summary | PHP 3,519 to 3,980 |
We trust the PHP 2,750 to 3,250 range most. Three guides dated within six weeks of each other land close to it, while the lowest figures come from aggregator pages with no date and warnings about fuel surcharges. Budget around PHP 3,000 per person and expect it to move.
On top of the ticket, both terminals charge a small terminal fee, reported at PHP 20 in cash at each end. If you are arriving in Coron, the PHP 200 Coron environmental fee is also collected in cash; guides disagree on exactly where. El Nido’s own fee is PHP 400 and applies to anyone visiting El Nido.

Rough weather and cancellations
Ferries on this route sail only when the weather allows. Keelooma’s FAQ says it directly: “Ferries between El Nido and Coron are cancelled in rough seas.” One 2026 guide calls cancellations during the southwest monsoon common; another says they are more frequent from June to October and suggests flying in the rainy season.
The Philippine Coast Guard sets the limits. Under its heavy-weather guidelines, smaller vessels may not sail when a tropical cyclone wind signal is raised along the route, and local Coast Guard stations also halt small boats when a gale warning is in force. No ferry operator publishes a calendar of suspended months, so no month comes with a guarantee, only better and worse odds. For more on the months, see our best time to go guide.
What that means in practice:
- Do not plan the ferry for the day of an onward flight. Leave at least one spare day.
- Keep your hotel booking flexible on the day you cross.
- If your ferry is cancelled, the alternatives are the next day’s boat or a flight.
Flights and the seaplane
Cebgo flies between El Nido’s Lio airport and Busuanga (the airport for Coron), about 40 minutes in the air. Guides quoted fares from about PHP 3,850 to about PHP 5,000, usually with one flight a day. Small planes are also grounded in poor visibility, so the same buffer advice applies. Our getting to El Nido and Coron guide covers the airports.
A private seaplane is the most expensive transfer we list. Horizon Sun Charters’ private seaplane transfer from El Nido to Busuanga on Viator takes about 45 minutes and was listed at $5,050 per group of up to four on dates we checked in late October 2026, with 5.0 from two reviews. Like the ferry, it depends on the weather.
Ferry or expedition?
The ferry is transport: three and a half hours, one ticket, done. A boat expedition covers the same crossing in two to four nights with snorkelling stops, island camps and meals. Big Dream Boatman puts it simply on its site: “A ferry is transport, this is the trip itself.”
If you are weighing the two, our expedition vs ferry guide works through time, cost and comfort. If you have decided on an expedition, the most-reviewed options on GetYourGuide are We Are Juan, Coron to El Nido (4.8 from 167 reviews, $311 per person on dates we checked in late October 2026) and We Are Juan, El Nido to Coron (4.8 from 602 reviews, $311).
