4 nights: Tao's Original expedition arrives around noon on day five

Tao Philippines is the best-known operator that sells only direct on the El Nido to Coron route. Its Original expedition sails four nights between the two towns and arrives around noon on the fifth day, after a briefing the evening before. Tao’s own booking data listed it at US$650 to US$750 per person on 25 October 2026, with some busy holiday dates at US$800. It is sold only on Tao’s own website, so there is no GetYourGuide or Viator listing for it. Pick Tao if you have five days to spare and want slower days and Tao’s own base camps. If you have three days, a marketplace 3-day trip covers the same waters faster and for less.

What the Tao Original actually is

Tao labels its flagship trip “4 days / 4 nights”, which confuses people booking flights. The itinerary on Tao’s site settles it. Day 0 is a briefing in the early evening at the Tao office in your departure town. Days 1 to 4 end at a Tao camp. On Day 5 you leave after breakfast and arrive at about 12:00 noon. So you sleep four nights on the islands, spread over five calendar days, plus a hotel night before the briefing.

The El Nido to Coron itinerary, as Tao publishes it:

  • Day 1: leave the Tao office in El Nido at 07:30, drive across to San Fernando on the east coast, board at Daracouton Bay and spend the night at Tao Beach Farm.
  • Days 2 and 3: the Linapacan islands, then south Culion.
  • Day 4: night at Camp Ngey Ngey on the west of Busuanga.
  • Day 5: arrive in Coron at about noon.

The Coron to El Nido version runs the same islands in reverse. Its briefing is at the Tao office in Coron, the boat leaves from the Coron Pantalan at 08:30 on Day 1, and the trip ends with the drive into El Nido town at about noon on Day 5.

Tao calls its coverage “a 250km stretch across an archipelago”. Compared with a 3-day trip, which usually lands in the afternoon of day 3 after two nights, the Original adds two more nights and more time in Linapacan and Culion. It is the trip the owner’s plan flags as not a straightforward 4D3N product, and that is right: it is four nights, not three. Our 4-day and longer expeditions page compares it with the other long trips.

Tao also sells shorter and longer versions. Its booking data on 25 October 2026 showed an Express trip (labelled “3 Days 3 Nights”, US$510, few dates listed), a 6-day Ultimate or Combo that adds Bacuit Bay (US$1,000 to US$1,050), and private charters. This guide covers the Original.

Prices and dates in Tao’s own booking data

Tao’s site loads its prices with JavaScript, so a normal page view often shows nothing. We read the same trip data that Tao’s booking page loads on 25 October 2026. These are Tao’s own figures, per person, in US dollars:

Departure monthOriginal price per person
Late Oct and Nov 2026US$650
Dec 2026US$700 to US$750
Jan 2027US$750
Feb to Mar 2027US$700 to US$750
Apr to May 2027US$700
Jun to Jul 2027US$650

On some departures, mostly over Christmas and New Year, the price shown was US$50 higher than the base rate, up to US$800. Those were dates with only a place or two left, so treat US$800 as the top of the range. Tao also shows sterling prices (US$650 appeared as £526).

Departures were listed in both directions from 25 October 2026 to 25 July 2027, almost daily in peak months. The data showed no August or September departures, which matches an older Tao statement that its trips run all year except August and September. We could not find that statement on a current Tao page, so check with Tao before planning a late-summer trip.

Each departure showed a capacity of 25. On 25 October 2026 many November to January departures had between zero and two places left. That is a snapshot, not live availability, but it suggests booking peak dates weeks ahead.

What the price covers, in Tao’s words: “travel from trip departure to trip arrival, accommodation in our signature tukas, all meals and activities”. Local eco-tourism fees are separate. Tao lists them as compulsory government fees collected at the port: El Nido PHP 400, Linapacan PHP 200, Coron PHP 200 and Culion PHP 100, “subject to government increase”. Ask for a receipt. Tao’s refund-policy page returned a “not found” error when we checked, so ask Tao for the deposit and cancellation terms in writing before you pay.

For comparison, the shared 3-day trips on GetYourGuide ranged from about $280 to $460 per person on dates we checked in late October 2026. Our expedition price guide breaks down what each one includes.

Base camps, huts and daily life

Tao’s camps are its own. The ones it names on the Original are Tao Beach Farm near San Fernando, a base camp on Linapacan, a stop in south Culion and Camp Ngey Ngey in west Busuanga. Tao’s FAQ says it runs “10 basecamps” in all.

You sleep in open-air bamboo huts (Tao calls them tukas) with a mattress, pillow, mosquito net and fresh bedding. There are showers and toilets at all the camps. Tao says most showers have a flush toilet nearby and the water comes from wells or drums. On a few remote beaches the toilet may be in the forest. It is simple and off-grid, which is the point of the trip.

Food is Filipino and family style: seafood, rice and vegetables. Tao has no refrigeration on board, so it cannot meet every diet. Tell them early if you have one. Snorkel masks are provided and Tao has fins in several sizes, which some 3-day operators do not. Bring a light rain jacket.

Tao does not publish boat specifications. It describes a local bangka adapted for the trip. Like every operator on this route, it sails only when the Coast Guard gives clearance. A Tao page we could no longer open said it cancels only when a severe weather warning is up and clearance is refused.

Rules worth knowing before you book

  • Age: the minimum is 13 “unless by prior agreement”, and there is no upper limit. Tao runs family trips from age 7 at major holidays.
  • Drinks: beer and soft drinks are sold on board and you may not bring your own. You may bring up to two bottles of wine. Hard liquor carries a PHP 2,500 corkage charge. Declare what you bring at boarding.
  • Briefing: Tao’s itinerary page says 18:00 the evening before, while its booking data says 5:30 pm. Plan to be in town by late afternoon and confirm the time with Tao.
  • Group: up to 25 per departure, with a wide mix of ages and nationalities in Tao’s description. Tao also lists solo-only trips “this season”.
  • Buffer: Tao’s own sample itineraries end with a night in Manila before the flight home and note that travel between islands “often takes a full day”. With a noon arrival on day 5 and weather delays possible, do not book a same-day international connection.

Who Tao suits, and the bookable alternatives

We’d pick Tao if you have five days, like the idea of a fixed network of camps run by one operator, and want two more nights than the standard trips. Tao calls itself the original Palawan expedition and dates its trips to 2006, and the extra nights let the route take in more of Linapacan and Culion.

It is a weaker fit if you have three days, want free cancellation through a marketplace, or are travelling with a child under 13. The price per night is also higher than the 3-day trips.

The closest bookable alternatives:

The availability box on this page belongs to the Sea Quest listing, not Tao. For every option side by side, start with the best expeditions by traveller type, or go by direction: Coron to El Nido or El Nido to Coron.
